Actually, butcher is at 256kbps and all the Mainstream E.P. tracks are at that bitrate (i.e. the mandate, the battlecry, the lifestyle); being at 128kbps, dr. blind could fit with the GUBA tracks also encoded at that bitrate, but we know from the track-numbered 196kbps versions that dr. blind was not part of GUBA and neither was it part of the 1998-2000 Metric demos CD pressed by Chrysalis (as it is not in the track listing provided by iometric). So it is truly an orphan song.\r\n\r\nThe going theory between asdf999 and I is that it was recorded in the interval between GUBA and OWU, and was included on one of those sampler CDs released at shows, or somehow else got distributed or leaked to the internet. One clue to help date it is finding out which version of LAME was used to encode the song; this fact furnishes a terminus a quo for the song (at least the present .mp3 version of it) and may also give a rough idea of when it must have been recorded by if we assume that the author was up-to-date in updating his/her version of LAME. This data is useful for showing that the SA songs were likely recorded (with the exception of the rerecorded version of soft rock star) BEFORE Metric was picked up by Restless in spring 2001. Maybe asdf999 has the info on which version of LAME was used for dr. blind. If it was the more recent version, then that could indicate that the song is more recent than the Mainstream EP and the GUBA demos tracks.
